1/4 Lichmere 'hole in the heart' Violin to Viola conversion

— September 27, 2013

Decent conversion done by Allegro strings in Bellingham, Wa. This conversion produces a reasonbaly convincing lower end viola, with the appropriate string gauges, from a violin. This was a decent entry level instrument, good condition, no bow. Not an easy find in these parts if your little one is attracted to viola!

Cordoba 12 Natural Fusion

— September 26, 2013

Fantastic crossover guitars for folks who like aspects of both steel strings and classicals. Thinner neck (thickness) with slightly less width at the nut, 1 7/8″, radiused fingerboard, cutaway and pickup. Cedar top on this model, case not included!

Casey Burns Blackwood Folk Flutes

— September 12, 2013

Casey Burns has been handcrafting wooden flutes for over 30 yrs. They are beautiful in every respect and the warmth of a wooden flute is unmistakeable. This folk flute is a simple, high quality instrument that is meant to be affordable and enjoyable, it is! We carry three versions of the folk flute; std hole spacing, small hole spacing (ever so slightly smaller than std for smaller hands) and a large hole version (the actual finger hole diameter is larger) which produces more volume, better tonal balance and better ergonomics.

Blueridge BR-40T Tenor Guitar

— September 7, 2013

The tenor guitar, like many instruments, holds a particular place in the history of instruments but, like many others it has been rediscovered and for some played in new directions. I love the tension on these instruments, you can really dig your fingers into the strings. The tuning, in fifths, opens up a whole new palette and there are many finger patterns that can be transferred from other instruments to this tuning, tenor banjo being the most obvious or a mandola for another example.

Case $124.95

Cigano GJ-10 Selmer copy

— September 7, 2013

Le ‘Petite Bouche’ or oval hole model of Gypsy Jazz guitar was developed after Mario Macaferri parted ways with Selmer. With a longer scale length and joined at the 14th fret this style of guitar is what Django Reinhardt used for lead playing with his 1930’s orchestra. Most noticeable about these guitars, besides their unique sound is the wider finger board, measuring 1 7/8″ at the nut. Hardshell case included.

Gypsy Jazz D-hole (grande bouche) Macaferri GJ-15

— September 5, 2013

The Cigano GJ-15 is a decent entry level Macaferri copy made by Saga Instruments. Fit and finish is nice, it does a reasonable job of producing that  bright thin punchiness to play rythm backup for Django or your frineds and it comes with a hardshell case.

Hammered Dulcimer-handmade

— September 1, 2013

This is a fine sounding 3 course instrument that spans 2.5  octaves. The instrument was made locally and includes a hardshell padded case with tuning wrench, hammers, table leg and knee leg. Fantastic price for some unique musical exploration!

Getzen Trumpet

— August 29, 2013

This is a decent quality trumpet made in Wisconsin, USA. Worth about $700 new. A few dings and some oxidation but blows fine and valves are smooth.

Frontalini 120 bass womens accordion

— August 29, 2013

Simple well made Italian accordion. Frontalinis, per say, haven’t been made for many years and, like many other accordion makes, were absorbed into several other well known accordion companies in the Castelfidardo area of Italy, known as the international capital of accordion makers. It is playing decently but could use some new leathers for the bass notes. Good condition, no mold, case included.

Trinity College Mandola

— August 23, 2013

These instruments are great fun and I like them because they seem (for me) a little easier to play with the 17″ scale length. Tuned a 5th lower than the mandolin one can still play what you know on mandolin with the same fingering, albeit in a different key. Very nice fit and finish on these instruments, case included.

Neopolitan Mandolin

— August 23, 2013

This is a Japanese Suzuki version of Italys abundant Neopolitan mandolin. Very good condition, very playable and decent tone.

Teton Grand Concert STG-100

— March 10, 2013

This GC model comes in a solid cedar top or spruce top version. The craftsmanship has been impeccable in these intruments. All wood binding and rosette, bone nut and saddle, intonated. Very playable out of the box and decent tone. Hard to go wrong for $349.

Dusty Strings D10 Hammered Dulcimer

— March 5, 2013

A solid sapele top and back, this dulcimer has a 2.5 octave range tuned in 5ths.

These instruments have to be played to truly appreciate their unique and beautiful sound. Here is a link to one of my favorite Canadian musicians, Ian Tamblyn, who has composed many original songs on hammered dulcimer.

Comes with a hardboard case, tuning wrench, table leg, hammers and instruction/care manual.
